64 prisoners to get degrees at BRAOU convocation

A life convict at Kadapa Central Prison has emerged as the topper among all the prisoners who appeared for the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University degree examinations to win the “Smt. Ananthasagar Bharathi Vishweswara Reddy Memorial Book Prize”.

Ande Srinivasulu Reddy, a convict of Central Prison in Kadapa, will get the prize at the BRAOU Convocation to be held on Monday for securing the highest aggregate marks in BA, B.Com and B.Sc. degree programmes.

BRAOU Vice-Chancellor P. Prakash said that 64 prisoners will receive degrees this year among the 29,657 candidates who cleared the examinations.

Among the prisoners, 14 are from Central Prison, Cherlapalli (including 2 women prisoners); 14 prisoners from Central Prison, Rajahmundry; 28 prisoners from Central Prison, Warangal and eight prisoners from Central Prison, Kadapa.

Research scholars

He said 17 research scholars will also be awarded M.Phil and Ph.D degrees.

The University will award 36 Gold Medals – 12 for UG courses and 24 for PG courses apart from three book prizes.

The Governor, E.S.L. Narasimhan, will present the degrees and gold medals while Narendra Jadhav, Member, Planning Commission will deliver the Convocation address.
