4 held for ‘extortion’

Four persons, who threatened a businessman using the name of gangster Nayeemuddin and tried to extort money from him, were arrested by the Malkajgiri police on Thursday. The police seized two motorcycles, four mobile phones, a sword and Rs. 5,000 cash from them.

The accused, Mohd Nawab (38) a realtor of Malkajigiri, Mohd Salman (21) a painter from Neredmet, Mohd Yousuf (28), a painter from Moula Ali and Shaik Javeed (21) a private employee from Neredmet threatened a businessman Pilli Anjaneyulu (61) asking him to settle the property dispute with one Ghouse of Warasiguda.

“They called up Anjaneyulu on Saturday and threatened him by introducing themselves as associates of Nayeemuddin of Bhongir and also demanded Rs. 5 lakh and 500 square yards of land,” ACP Malkajgiri, M Ravichandan Reddy said.

They again called on Wednesday and asked him to come to Laxminagar. “The accused took him to a secluded place and robbed him of Rs. 10,000. They also took his signatures on blank papers and warned him to pay the money,” the official added. Based on a complaint made by Anjaneyulu, a police team raided the house of Mohd Nawab and arrested them.
