As part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), 18 works worth about ₹2,546.5 crore are under progress, while the remaining works will be taken up in a phased manner, said Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
Replying to a question in the Assembly on Saturday, he said the Government had decided to take up 52 works at an estimated cost of ₹26,459.81 crore and it would be completed in five phases.
He said the underpass at Mind Space would be completed by the month-end, while the Mind Space flyover would be completed by June and Rajiv Gandhi statue flyover would be finished by December this year.
The Bio-Diversity flyover was expected to be completed by March 2019. The works related to these areas were been taken up at a cost of ₹379 crore.
The LB Nagar Corridor work was being taken up at an estimated cost of ₹448 crore.
The Chintal Kunta underpass, flyover near Kamineni, LB Nagar LHS flyover and underpass would be completed by December. The Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge was likely to be finished by March next year, he said, adding that all ongoing works would be completed before December 2019.
Defence lands
Mr. Rama Rao also revealed some problems in acquiring Defence lands for SRDP works proposed between Paradise and Suchitra junction and connecting Jubilee bus station and Shamirpet. He said the State Government had sought 100 acres from Defence authorities and promised to compensate them with 600 acres elsewhere but the authorities had put up a demand for paying ₹30 crore per year perennially.
He said the issue had been taken up with three Defence Ministers several times but not resolved. He requested BJP members G. Kishan Reddy and K. Laxman to use their good offices at the Centre and help finding a solution.
Positive response
The Minister said the GHMC conducted a survey, seeking the feedback of commuters passing through Ayyappa Society underpass taken up under SRDP, which had been open to traffic from January 3 this year.
The survey covered two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler commuters and there was a positive response from them as travel time got reduced by about 30 minutes.
The Minister admitted that bad quality work was done in certain areas of the underpass and said action had been initiated against the contractor and the officials who were responsible for quality check.
