15 jailed for driving under intoxication in Hyderabad

A city court on Monday sentenced 15 persons to undergo a three-day imprisonment for driving in an inebriated condition.

They were caught during a special drink driving enforcement conducted on May 3 and 4, a press release said.

Drive

A total of 318 motorists were caught during the drive of which 138 were driving two-wheelers, 65 four-wheelers and 15 three-wheelers.

The motorists were found with Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of more than 30 mg per 100 ml blood and were booked for drunk driving under Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act. According to the act, a motorist can be booked for drunk driving if his BAC crosses 30 mg per 100 ml.

Counselling sessions

The motorists attended the compulsory counselling sessions at Traffic Training Institutes at Begumpet and Goshamahal on Monday and were later produced in a local court.

A total of 4,417 motorists have been booked for drink driving since January 2013 and a total of 316 have been sentenced to under go imprisonment till date.
