A young doctor sustained serious injuries after he allegedly fell from the 12 floor of Parikrama building in Connaught Place here under mysterious circumstances on Saturday night.
Punit, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was found in a serious condition near the generator room of the building on the ground floor around 11 p.m. He was rushed to Lohia Hospital from where he has been referred to a private hospital. “His condition has improved,” said a police officer.
Enquiries by the police revealed that on Saturday evening, Punit went to a restaurant along with his friends and allegedly consumed liquor there. On some trivial issue, an altercation broke out between one of the friends and a couple, and the restaurant manager had to intervene.
Punit and his friends then left the restaurant after paying their bills. Punit, who took the stairs, was allegedly stopped by a security guard on the 18 floor. The guard reportedly advised him to take an elevator instead. The police suspect that on the way, he lost his balance and fell down. “However, we are yet to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading up to the incident,” said the officer. When he did not reach the ground floor, his friends started looking for him and found him lying near the generator room in a serious state.
The police are yet to record Punit’s statement. They have registered a case of negligence against unknown persons.
