Agency’s counsel ‘questioned’ experts

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) pulled up the Delhi Development Authority on Thursday for casting aspersions on the findings of its expert committee, which examined the damage caused to the Yamuna floodplains after the Art of Living organised its three-day World Culture Festival here in March 2016.

‘No sweeping statements’

“It is not fair. You cannot make sweeping comments against people who have devoted their life to the environment. We are warning you that if anybody passes strictures, we will not hesitate to take action against them,” said a Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar.

Tribunal takes exception

The court took exception to the submission of the counsel for DDA, who questioned the conclusions of the seven-member panel.

The DDA counsel said that he did not intend to cast aspersions and was only questioning the basis of the findings and technology used by the panel.

Earlier, an expert committee had told the NGT that a whopping ₹42.02 crore would be required to restore the floodplains that had suffered damage after the cultural extravaganza last year.
