To promote the sport amongst young Delhiites, an international-standardhockey field was on Saturday inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at a Delhi government school in Matiala Assembly constituency’s Ghumanhera village.

Third facility

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the facility was the first artificial turf ground to be laid at a government school. Mr. Kejriwal added that it would be the third facility for hockey in Delhi, apart from Dhyan Chand National Stadium and Shivaji Stadium. At the inauguration, Mr. Kejriwal, Mr. Sisodia and area MLA, Gulab Singh, met young hockey players from the area, and the CM even tried his hand at the sport.

He later tweeted that many renowned hockey players had emerged from rural Delhi, and without government support. He said the government would create many sports facilities across rural Delhi to support budding players.
