Several women have been sitting in protest for nearly a week now demanding the closure of a government-run liquor shop that is located in front of a municipal school in Sector 3, Dwarka.

Students molested

The protesters, who mostly work as domestic workers, said people who came to purchase liquor at the shop molested the female students of the school.

“Men start drinking in the open as soon as the shop opens. They pose a nuisance to every passer-by,’’ said area resident Leena Dabiru.

Also, when ragpickers come in the morning to collect the empty bottles, they drink the leftover alcohol. The protesters said the ragpickers even consumed drugs.

The women said the government should immediately relocate the shop. They further said that the police should provide protection to the residents against anti-social elements.

They also demanded that the ragpickers who consumed drugs be counselled.
