A 37-year-old woman was allegedly murdered on Sunday night by her neighbour in East Delhi’s New Kondli, where she was staying in a rented accommodation.
The accused, who strangled the woman with her dupatta , fled the scene with her mobile phone. He was arrested on Monday.
Traced using phone
According to the police, accused Qayum alias Kalim, native of Bihar, was arrested from Noida after his location was traced with the help of the last location of the woman’s phone. He told the police that he was a rickshaw puller.
In a relationship
Qayum allegedly told the police that he was in a relationship with the victim, a daily wage labourer, for the past few months and killed her as she started ignoring him and got involved with another man.
“He had threatened her in the past and the two used to fight over the issue,” said a senior police officer.
On Sunday, he entered her accommodation and asked her to move in with him.
When she refused, he forced himself on her and later murdered her.
Employer finds body
The police was informed about the murder on Monday morning when the woman’s employer, a contractor, called her on her mobile phone and found it switched off. He then went to her house and discovered her body.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered against the accused on charges of murder,” said the officer.
