The family of a 32-year-old woman alleged on Sunday that she was held captive and forced to starve by her husband.

The family also claimed that they rescued Kavita on Saturday with assistance from the police. The police, however, said Kavita was ill and was undergoing treatment for tuberculosis over the past few months and was not confined by her husband. According to an acquaintance of Kavita’s family, Ashok Bansal, Kavita had married Deepak, a businessman, 12 years ago and they have three children. “The relationship between the couple had been good until last year when her husband started seeing another woman,” alleged Mr. Bansal.

Almost three months ago, when Kavita’s mother Sheela once visited her house, Deepak’s family allegedly misbehaved with her and did not allow her to meet Kavita and she came back.

After she did not get any news of her daughter for months, Sheela informed her brother who along with Mr. Bansal visited Kavita’s house and enquired about her. As they were not allowed to meet Kavita, Mr. Bansal made a call to the police control room and within minutes the police reached the spot.

Kavita was later rushed to the nearby Holy Family Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
