Wi-Fi at more city stations

February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

With Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announcing extension of Wi-Fi facility at around 400 stations across the country, more railway stations in the city are likely to be equipped with the wireless broadband facility in near future.

Currently, the facility is available only at the New Delhi railway station, which was launched by Mr. Prabhu on December 8 last year.

Officials said the facility is likely to come up at the other A1 category stations.

While New Delhi is the biggest rail terminal in the city with over 200 express and passenger trains operating and an average daily footfall of over five lakh, three other stations - Anand Vihar, Old Delhi and Nizamuddin – fall in A1 category.

Besides, Sarai Rohilla and Delhi Cantt fall in category A. Some major West India-bound trains like premium Jaipur Double Decker operates from Sarai Rohilla.

As of now, the facility available at New Delhi is free of cost initially for a period of 30 minutes by registering on the Wi-Fi network through mobile.

For usage beyond 30 minutes, the user needs to purchase scratch cards, which will be made available at the 24x7 Wi-Fi help desks in the concourse on Paharganj and Ajmeri gate side of the station adjoining platform no. 1 and 16 respectively.
