Three men allegedly involved in a theft at Old Delhi railway station and a man accused of a burglary at Dilshad Garden metro station have been arrested in two different raids conducted by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
With the arrests, the police claim to have recovered valuables worth lakhs. One of the accused is involved in 20 cases of thefts and under the Arms Act.
On January 4, Gurgaon-resident Ashish Kumar had reported that his bag containing a laptop, two mobile phones and some documents had been stolen at Old Delhi railway station. A case was registered and investigations taken up.
“With the help of technical surveillance, a police team consisting of sub-inspector Rajinder Dabas and three others zeroed down on Manjit and Ashok who were subsequently arrested and the stolen mobile phone and laptop were recovered from their possession. One juvenile was also detained. At their instance, their accomplice Bharat was also held and a stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession,” said a senior police officer.
In the second case, a footwear showroom at Dilshad Garden metro station was burgled last week. According to the complainant, the shutter of the showroom was broken and Rs. 42,000 in cash was stolen. Acting on a tip off, the police arrested one Anwar who has previous involvement in several cases. During interrogation, Anwar purportedly confessed to his involvement in the burglary along with his accomplice Sadam who is absconding.
An iron rod used in the burglary has also been recovered from Anwar’s possession, said the police.
