A 26-year-old criminal was arrested on Monday evening for allegedly firing at police personnel who were chasing him and his associate for running away after they were spotted in a stolen car. The associate managed to escape by scaling a boundary wall.
The PCR received a call around 5 p.m. stating that two men were running in the streets of Dwarka sector 6 with a pistol. As the police chased them, they entered an apartment.
“After thorough search, Chetan Boxer, a wanted criminal, was arrested,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-west) Gaurav Sharma.
The police said the traffic police started chasing the duo after friends of a car theft victim spotted the accused driving his vehicle.
“They told the traffic police stationed nearby about the accused, after which the duo was asked to exit the car. However, they started running and also fired at the police officers,” he said.
“Chetan has several murder, attempt to murder and robbery cases registered against him. A semi-automatic pistol was recovered from him,” said the officer.
