Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday inaugurated a new vocational college located at the Karampura Campus of Ambedkar University. The School of Vocational Studies (SVS) will offer B.Voc. degree programmes in tourism and hospitality, retail management and the early childhood centre management and entrepreneurship.
Dean of the college Akha Kaihrii Mao said the highlight of these programmes was that multi-entry and multi-exit options are available to the students. The curriculum has been designed in close partnership with industry experts, industry association.
He added that the curricula of the programmes have been designed keeping in mind the current trends as well as the future scenario to ensure that the programmes are dynamic and relevant for its main purposes — employability and entrepreneurship.
Students and job market
“The Vocational Programme in Early Childhood Centre Management and Entrepreneurship (ECCME) will address the age group of 0-6 years, which has not been addressed even in the Right to Education Act”, said Mr. Sisodia at the launch.
Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor Shayam B. Menon, said Delhi has a wide heterogeneous population consisting also of semi-rural population and there is a need to understand the interface between the students and the job market as well as space for social entrepreneurship. “The aim is not to flood the job market but to create job for others as well. The student should not just manage wealth of others rather they should be able to create wealth for themselves too,” said the Vice-Chancellor .
All three courses launched are of three years in duration. If a student wants to discontinue the course after six months or a semester, they will be given a certificate for having competed the semester so that they can join market.
They will have an option of coming back and completing their course and get a degree.
