The Delhi Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday summoned the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) chairman following complaints by MLAs, cutting across party lines, about repeated revisions in power tariff every year and “irregularities” being exploited by power discoms to depict they are incurring losses.
The matter was raised in the House by AAP MLA from Sangam Vihar Dinesh Mohaniya. Mr. Mohaniya said the discoms were revising tariff annually since 2002 with questionable claim about losses, while the DERC had failed to play its mandated role.
All the members supported Mr. Mohaniya and demanded that a regular review of DERC’s functioning be ordered on the lines of the CAG audit of discoms. “Ask the DERC chairman if he is working for the people or in the interest of discoms,” said Mr. Mohaniya.
Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta said the DERC was a quasi-judicial body and it was within the Assembly’s jurisdiction to call its chairman to the House.
Speaker Ram Niwas Goel ruled that the DERC chairman would be summoned to the House in its next session.
