Unruffled by power cut, she kept her cool

July 01, 2014 09:20 am | Updated April 21, 2016 11:17 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Power cuts in the Capital wait for no man, or a queen for that matter. Sitting in a dark room on a sultry Monday evening in Outer Delhi, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands maintained her cool while the electricity played spoilsport.

The Queen was visiting an innovative water plant in Savda Ghevra that supplies drinking water to residents of the resettlement colony through ATMs or kiosks. The European Royal is in the country in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

At the Sarvajal filtration plant, chief of operations Anuj Sharma was telling the Queen details about the reverse osmosis process that was being implemented when the lights went out and the fans stopped whirling.

“This is Delhi for you,” joked Mr. Sharma, to which the Queen smiled.
