The University Grants Commission has allowed Delhi University colleges to “re-engage those ad hoc teachers on the opening day of the academic session who fulfil the conditions of minimum eligibility as laid down”.

In a note issued on Thursday, UGC Secretary Jaspal S. Sandhu said it had been brought to the notice of the Commission that DU colleges were “facing a serious crisis regarding the re-engagement of ad hoc teachers and that too at a time when the colleges have transited from Four-Year Undergraduate Programme to Three-Year Undergraduate Programme and the new academic session is commencing.”

In order to overcome this crisis, he said, the UGC has allowed the relaxation. It has also stated that the teachers who are re-engaged should be those “who were in place till the last working day of the previous academic session to ensure smooth commencement of teaching and learning in their respective campuses”.
