Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked a drug syndicate operating from West Bengal with the arrest of two youths allegedly with five kg heroin.
Mohd Saidul Islam (25) and Maikel Sekh (22), both residents of Murshidabad in West Bengal, were apprehended from south Delhi’s Munirka yesterday, Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.
“We had information that two persons of this syndicate would come to deliver huge quantity of heroin to their customer near Nelson Mandela Marg - Baba Gang Nath Marg Crossing in Munirka and we laid a trap,” he said.
Three kg fine heroin was recovered from Islam while two kg of the contraband was recovered from Sekh. “The drug was concealed in two bags carried by both the persons,” he said.
Islam works in a marketing firm but mainly deals in supplying heroin from Murshidabad to Delhi, the officer said, adding that he procures raw opium at Rs 40,000 per kg from farmers engaged in illegal cultivation of poppy plants in West Bengal.
“He then prepares the heroin from opium with the help of skilled labourers. This heroin is then sold to the drug traffickers in Delhi at exorbitant prices,” Mr. Goel said.
Sekh is an alleged associate of Islam. He also works in a multi-level marketing firm.
