Two men robbed of Rs. 90 lakh at gunpoint

June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

Two employees of a jeweller were robbed of a bag containing Rs.90 lakh on Monday morning while heading to a bank to deposit the cash.

Police are clueless about the identity of the four robbers who had arrived in a Hyundai Santro and rammed the motorcycle the employees were riding.

The incident was reported from west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar. Suraj and Sandeep are employed at a jewellery showroom. The jeweller Subhash Aggarwal owns eight jewellery showrooms in the Capital.

Aggarwal had assigned the duo with the task of depositing Rs.90 lakh at a Corporation Bank branch in the area at around 11.30 am on Monday. Aggarwal’s relative Amit said that the money had come in from the different showrooms.

“As they reached Paschim Vihar’s A-block, their motorcycle was hit on the left side by a car. The two motorcycle riders fell off the vehicle due to the impact,” said a senior police officer.

Two masked men armed with an iron rod and a pistol emerged from the car and demanded that the cash-laden bag be handed over to them. The victims were allegedly threatened with being shot if they refused.

With the bag in their possession, the robbers entered their car and drove away with two other accomplices who were in the car, the victims told police.

Suraj managed to note down the car’s registration number. However, it turned out to be a fake number when police investigated.

The victims then called their employer before dialling the police control room (PCR) number. A case in this connection has been registered at Paschim Vihar.

Police are on the lookout for CCTV footage in the area for clues. The role of insiders is suspected in the robbery, said the officer. Employees of the showroom are being questioned.
