The Delhi Police have arrested an alleged gangster and his close associate involved in a contract killing case in which a businessman based in New Friends Colony was killed in broad daylight last year.

The Delhi Police Commissioner had declared a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh on cracking the case.

The accused identified as Mohd. Danish Jamal alias Sameer and his aide Deepak Sirohi alias Bunty were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Tuesday.

“We had received a tip-off that Jamal, who was planning to execute a heinous crime, would be coming to meet an associate near Hanuman Temple, behind G.B. Road. It was also learnt that one Deepak, an associate of Jamal, would be meeting a contact near Dilshad Garden metro station parking and thereafter join him,” said DCP Special Cell Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The police laid a trap on both locations. On Jamal’s arrival, he was asked to surrender but the gangster pointed a gun towards the police party. However after a brief scuffle, the police managed to overpower him.

The second team, around the same time, spotted Deepak and he too was nabbed.

“Deepak along with Ible Hassan, Jamal and others had executed a contract killing in which a prominent manpower agent of South Delhi Farrukh Khan was killed at the behest of his business rival settled in a West Asian country on September 22 last year,” said Mr. Yadav.

A murder case was registered in this regard at New Friends Colony police station.

Jamal is the first cousin of one Naasir, the dreaded member of Naasir-Hashim gang operating in Trans-Yamuna areas of Delhi. He has been involved in a number of other criminal cases in Delhi and other areas.
