The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested two Nepalese nationals for their alleged role in human trafficking.
The duo used to target girls from north-eastern States who wanted to come to Delhi to earn a living.
The accused Nikhil alias Kamal Uchahi alias Sumeet Rana and Rem Bahadur Uchahi alias Dipak were caught based on a tip-off that they would be near south-west Delhi’s Munirka area. “After waiting for five hours, Nikhil was spotted near Anupam restaurant with Rem. Though the latter tried to run way, the two were arrested on the spot,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Praveer Ranjan.
Police said that the duo used to lure girls from Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam, Manipur and Mizoram on the pretext of getting them jobs with handsome salaries in the Capital. They later pushed them into prostitution.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the duo have many other associates. The hunt for them is on. “As soon as the accused persons were arrested, their associates became alert and left their places. Search for the other associates is on and they too will be apprehended,” said Mr. Ranjan.
