‘Top people in Centre behind Nirav Modi case’

February 19, 2018 12:26 am | Updated 12:26 am IST - NEW DELHI

Hitting out against the BJP-ruled Centre, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the fact that businessmen Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya left the country with huge debts owed to banks pointed to the involvement of those “at the top of the Central government”.

“It is not a coincidence that Nirav Modi ran away with ₹11,000 crore and Vijay Mallya with ₹9,000 crore in debts. Many agencies are involved. It is not possible without a green flag from the top. The people at the top of the Central government are involved,” said Mr. Kejriwal.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor added that people were worried whether their money was safe in banks and some had approached him with such concerns.

‘No scam stopped’

“The BJP is saying that this started in 2011 and the Congress is saying it started later. But, it was going on till now. We are saying that the scams that started in the time of the Congress are still on today. Not one scam has stopped. First the Congress used to make money, now the BJP does,” said Mr. Kejriwal.
