Paving the way for fresh anti-corruption movement, advocate and activist Prashant Bhushan on Thursday urged hundreds of protesters to raise their voice against “grave issues” affecting the country today.
Legislations diluted
“Following the Anna movement in 2011, the government was forced to bring up anti-corruption legislations like the Jan Lokpal Bill or the Whistle Blowers Act. But these legislations have either been diluted or barely implemented. Many new issues have come up too. It’s time we all launched another crusade against corruption,” Mr. Bhushan told the gathering.
The protest march, named “ Bhrashtachar Se Azaadi” , was taken out from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar. It was jointly organised by various organisations, including the Swaraj Abhiyan, National Alliance for People’s Movements (NAPM) and National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI).
The key issues raised by protesters included appointment of a Lokpal, transparency and accountability in political funding and protection of whistle-blowers. Demands were also made for independent investigations into the Sahara-Birla diaries and allegations made by deceased former Arunachal Pradesh CM Kalikho Pul in his suicide note.
