Indira Gandhi International Airport witnessed three emergency landings within a couple of hours on Wednesday.
The first emergency landing was that of an international cargo flight from Germany. The Kalitta Air flight (K4247) landed at the airport's runway 29 at 4.45 a.m. after the pilot of the aircraft noticed a fire alarm in the cockpit. Full emergency conditions were declared at the airport with fire services and medical aid on standby. The flight had a safe landing and there were no reports of injuries to the crew. The emergency call was closed finally at 5.10 pm.
The other two emergency landings were also of international flights but were caused due to bad weather conditions in the Delhi airspace. In the first instance, an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah (G9 465) was told to divert to Jaipur due to bad weather conditions at Delhi airport. However, as the weather at Jaipur too was bad for flight operations, the flight from Sharjah was given priority landing at Delhi under emergency conditions after the pilot informed that the aircraft was running low on fuel. The flight landed safely at the runway 29 of the airport at around 5.30 p.m.
The third flight was an Air Asia flight (I5 3426) from Pune to Jaipur, which was diverted to Delhi due to bad weather conditions in Jaipur. However, due to bad weather at Delhi the flight had to hover for long and was finally given priority landing under emergency conditions in Delhi at around 5.30 p.m.. The flight had a safe landing at runway 29 and there were no reports of any injury to the passengers or crew.
