Three youths drowned in the Yamuna during Kali Puja visarjan in Timarpur on Friday. The victims were residents of Nangloi’s JJ Colony.

According to a fire official, the deceased were identified as Dipanshu, 20, Parveen, 20, and Shailesh, 18. They drowned while taking a dip in the river at the Shyam Ghats after the immersion rituals were completed.

Locals told the police that those present at the spot could not rescue the boys as they didn’t know how to swim. The call was made around 4 p.m. and they were fished out at 5.40 p.m. after which the boys were taken to a hospital where they were declared brought dead.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
