The Delhi BJP on Tuesday demanded that the tragic death of 14 children at Kalawati Saran Hospital recently be probed properly and those responsible be booked for criminal negligence. It also demanded payment of compensation to the families of the children.
In a statement, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said the death of so many children in Delhi Government's Kalawati Saran Hospital was a matter of deep concern. He said the episode also portrayed the condition of the government hospitals in real light.
The senior BJP leader claimed that on October 14, as many as seven children died in the hospital within an hour – all of them were reportedly suffering from high fever. “In the beginning, the hospital administration did not take it seriously. When the media became active only then the hospital administration and the Delhi Government woke up. After ordering an enquiry into this matter, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the Union Health Minister felt that they had completed their responsibility,” he said.
But, Mr. Gupta said, the matter needs to be probed properly as seven more children had died in the hospital within the last 24 hours, and again the children were reported to be running high fever.
Demanding payment of Rs.5 lakh compensation to each of the affected families, the BJP leader said the Delhi Government should taken note of the situation to ensure that more such death did not take place.
