A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men at a parking lot behind Scindia House on Kasturba Gandhi Marg here on the intervening night of December 8 and 9. The Delhi Police are trying to establish the sequence of events of that night.
Police personnel spotted the victim while they were patrolling in a PCR van around 2 a.m. on Monday. The girl told the police that frequent arguments with her stepmother had compelled her to run away from home in Gorakhpur and come to Delhi.
She added that she met four men outside the New Delhi railway station. They took her to the parking lot in N Block and allegedly took turns to rape her.
The girl was sent to the State-run Nari Niketan after a case was registered against unknown persons under provisions pertaining to rape.
Investigations in the case have encountered several hurdles so far, according to the police. A senior police officer said the girl refused to undergo medical examination, which is crucial for confirming rape. He added that there were other discrepancies in her version as well.
“When we tried to contact her family to inform them about the incident, we found that the name of her native village, which she provided us, does not exist. It seems the girl is a little disoriented and we have arranged for counselling to help her to recover from the trauma. Once we verify the facts available with us, we can proceed with zeroing in on the suspects,” said a police source.
