ACB arrests sub-registrar on graft charges

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested a sub-registrar posted in south Delhi’s Mehrauli for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 here on Tuesday.

Identified as Rana Pratap Singh, posted as sub-registrar-V for the Kalkaji zone, the accused was arrested along with one Mahesh Kumar, a local tout, said Mukesh Kumar Meena, Special Commissioner of Police (ACB).

According to Mr. Meena, action against the government official and the accused tout followed a day after the ACB was approached by a complainant alleging that a property located in Govindpuri was registered at Singh’s office on April 8.

Later, however, when the complainant visited his office to get an original registered copy of the same, a demand of Rs. 25,000 was made by sub-registrar to release the said document “through his tout Mahesh Kumar.”

“Instead of giving bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint on the basis of which a trap was laid and officers of the branch caught both Singh and Kumar red-handed as they demanded and accepted a cash bribe of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant,” Mr. Meena said.

According to Mr. Meena, a criminal case has been registered against Singh under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation aimed at ascertaining his involvement in similar instances of graft was currently underway.
