August 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:40 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Educational institutions across the country will organise a mass singing of the National Anthem at 11 a.m. on Tuesday following a directive from the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The event will mark the end of the fortnight-long Independence Day celebrations.

End of I-day celebrations

On Monday, Jawaharlal Nehru University issued a notice requesting all faculty members, students and staff to assemble outside the Administrative Block for the event. The university had organised a ‘tiranga march’ on Monday as part of initiatives that included cultural evenings, essay writing competitions and rangoli competitions.

Educational institutions had received instructions from the Centre to declare the period between August 9 and 23 as the “Azad-70 Yaad Karo Kurbani’ fortnight. The circular came with a list of activities that could be organised during the celebrations, which will culminate with the mass singing of the National Anthem.

The UGC and MHRD also instructed all institutions to send a compliance report of the events held.
