A Class XII student of a prominent public school allegedly committed suicide in the school premises in Sector 22 here on Thursday.
The teenaged girl was found hanging from the exhaust fan inside a washroom on the second floor of the school around 1-30 p.m.
Her family resides in DLF Phase-IV and her father runs a business in Delhi.
Though the police said it was not immediately known what prompted her to take the extreme step, the girl, according to school sources, was caught talking on a mobile phone inside the premises in violation of school rules.
Her class teacher had allegedly snatched the mobile phone and threatened to inform her parents about it.
The girl, who was said to be good in studies, requested the teacher not to tell her parents about the incident.
She was later found hanging in the washroom.
The teenager was a commerce student and had joined the school during the last academic year.
A Forensic Science Laboratory team along with the police examined the crime spot.
“We are investigating the case. No suicide note has been recovered yet,” said a senior police officer.
"The family initially expressed doubt that she was murdered, but was later satisfied. In a written complaint to us the family has accused one Vasu of abetment to suicide and a case has been registered against him," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Kumar.
Vasu, a resident of Amritsar, had reportedly gone to the school a few times over the past few months to meet the girl.
