Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurate a 3.4-kilometre-long elevated road between Vikaspuri and Meena Bagh on the outer Ring Road on Sunday afternoon.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will be the chief guest on the occasion and the function will be presided over by Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Mr Satyendar Jain. With the completion of this elevated road project, which has provision for rain water harvesting, intersections at Anand Kunj T-Junction, Manohar Nagar Crossing, Keshopur Crossing, Sabji Mandi T-Junction and Meera Bagh T-Junction will become signal-free, said a senior government official. According to the PWD, the project will benefit Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Tilak Nagar, Jwalaheri, Pashcim Vihar and Bhera Enclave with commuters saving 12 minutes of traffic time and the “smooth and uninterrupted traffic” on the stretch expected to save emission of at least 38 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) per day.
The Delhi government has planned an outlay of Rs. 2,208 crore, which is 11 per cent of the total plan outlay for the fiscal, exclusively for the enhancement of road infrastructure in the Capital this year. With an aim to create an accessible public transport system as convenient as the Delhi Metro, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had, while presenting the annual budget, said the government proposed two elevated BRT corridors — one from Anand Vihar Terminal to Peeragarhi (29-km-long East-West Corridor) and the other from Wazirabad to the IGI Airport (24-km-long North-South Corridor).
The government has also proposed toss overhaul 11 arterial stretches in accordance with international standards and improve road infrastructure.
