The functioning of the National Commission for Women (NCW) may soon be under review.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat has appointed a Sub-Committee to look into the functioning of the NCW.
The Sub-Committee has invited suggestions, views and comments from interested organisations, institutions and individuals on the subject.
They have asked for suggestions, particularly on the issues relating to role of the Commission in safeguarding the rights of women in changing times, the positive impact of the Commission’s recommendations on women specific legislations, the coordination mechanism between the NCW and the State Commissions for Women.
They have also asked these organisations or individuals to comment on the constraints and problem areas noticed in the functioning of the NCW and give suggestions for strengthening its function.
Starting from October 31, a time frame of 15 days has been given to submit the suggestions which would be treated as confidential and would enjoy privileges of the committee. An advertisement put out by the RS Secretariat says that those who are willing to appear before the Sub-Committee besides submitting memoranda could request to do so.
