Street food goes international

Indian street food delights like gol gappas, aloo tikki, litti chokha, puri sabzi, gulab jamun, will make their presence felt at the World Street Food Congress in Singapore, which begins on April 8.

Ubiquitous delights like gol gappas , aloo tikki , litti chokha , puri sabzi , gulab jamun , etc., will travel with Indian street food vendors to Singapore for the World Street Food Congress, which begins on April 8.

The nine-day event is being organised by Singapore-based Makansutra.

Street food masters from across the world are expected to participate in the event.

Six vendors will be part of an eight-member National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) delegation, led by Street Food Programmes head Sangeeta Singh. Shyam and Dhalchand from Delhi will dish out aloo tikki , chaat , gol gappas , puri sabzi and gulab jamuns ; while Ashok from Bihar will churn out litti chokha and special litti chicken.

A World Street Food Dialogue will also take place in Singapore from April 8-11 and see the presence of more than 20 key speakers, including Ms. Singh. The speakers will share, discuss and present ways to “empower, engage and enterprise” street food vendors across the world.
