The National Green Tribunal (NGT) lifted the stay on construction of a waste treatment plant in a catchment area of the Basai Wetland in Gurugram.

After going through documents placed on record, a Bench headed by NGT acting chairperson U. D. Salvi observed that the area in question has not been identified as a wetland by the Haryana government.

HSPCB consent

Further, the project proponents informed the green panel that it will not carry out any constructions without obtaining required consent from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB).

“The record reveals that the land in question has not been identified as a wetland by Haryana. Learned counsel, on behalf of the project proponent, undertakes not to set up any machinery, equipments and operate the same therein for running the facilities of C&D waste processing without obtaining authorisation from the HSPCB,” the Bench said in its order.

The orders came while the green bench was hearing a plea filed by non-government organisation Delhi Bird Foundation, which sought a stay on the construction stating that the wetland was an important water body.
