An 18-year-old woman who was stabbed repeatedly inside a shopping plaza at Greater Noida’s Kasna on Friday morning by an alleged stalker succumbed to injuries in the evening, the police said.

The shopping plaza is located barely 100 metres from a police outpost.

The police said 25-year-old Kuldeep tried to flee after attacking Khushboo but stabbed himself when he was cornered by the public. Kuldeep is said to be stable but not out of danger, they said.

The incident happened around 11.30 a.m. on the first floor of A.K. Plaza in Jagat Farm market.

The police said Kuldeep reached the shop where Khushboo was employed as a promoter.

Accused stabbed self

“Kuldeep asked Khushboo to speak to him. She started towards the first floor of the plaza with the accused. CCTV camera footage shows Khushboo trying to free herself from Kuldeep’s grasp and walking towards a washroom. Kuldeep then attacks her repeatedly with a knife and later stabs himself,” said Kasna police station Station House Officer Shalendra Pratap Singh.

Eyewitnesses said Kuldeep tried to flee after the attack. Surendra Kumar, who works in a shop at A.K. Plaza, said, “When he attacked Khushboo, she started screaming for help. We all came out of our shops. Kuldeep tried to run and he threatened us with a knife. Meanwhile, the police was informed. Two policemen arrived at the plaza within 5-10 minutes. As soon as he spotted them, Kuldeep went back to the spot where Khushboo was lying and stabbed himself.”

The police rushed both Khushboo and Kuldeep to the nearby Kailash Hospital in an autorickshaw.

A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC has been registered against Kuldeep.
