A Special Protection Group commando — posted at the residence of a senior politician in the Lutyens’ Zone — who had gone missing last week resurfaced on Wednesday.

Rakesh Kumar, 31, is currently being questioned by the police about the sequence of events from his disappearance to reappearance.

So far, they have ruled out any foul play as Mr. Kumar said he was depressed due to financial woes.

His parents are also being questioned to ascertain if that is the case.

On Wednesday, the SPG control room received a call that a man carrying the force’s identity card seemed lost in the area falling under the Tilak Marg police station.

A call was made to the police control room and a team later brought Mr. Kumar to the station and informed his parents.

‘Depressed and in debt’

“He went missing on September 1. Two days later, his family members approached us and submitted a missing complaint. On the basis of that complaint, we launched a probe and were looking for him when the news about him being seen in the New Delhi area reached us,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B. K. Singh.

Mr. Kumar, a resident of Dwarka Sector 8, had recently completed his commando training for VIP security.

He told the police that he had been reaching late for work and was pulled up by a senior. This combined with the fact that he was in debt had left him depressed.

He had a day off on September 1, but left home in his uniform to meet a senior officer. He told his family that he was going to work.

However, he was unable to meet the officer and left the phone in the office. He went missing soon after.

“He is not saying much, we may provide him some counselling,” said a police officer.
