In order to provide hassle-free travel to commuters and to tackle the huge rush expected on general public days at the India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Delhi Transport Corporation will provide special and increased services for their passengers from Saturday.
While the DMRC will run 200 extra trips between Saturday and November 27, DTC will run “Trade Fair Special” buses on five routes in the city.
“Delhi Metro will run trains with a peak hour frequency throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with an additional 15 trains put into service,” said a DMRC statement.
As many as 43 manual token counters on weekdays and 52 on weekends will also be set up at the Pragati Maidan metro station with separate counters for specific token denominations and destinations. “To avoid overcrowding, all tokens will be sold from ground floor only. No tokens will be sold from concourse level,” said the DMRC statement.
Additional customer facilitation agents (CFAs) may also be deployed at high footfall stations like Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate to manage the huge rush. Extra security personnel, additional door frame metal detectors and extra X-Ray machines will be in place at the Pragati Maidan station.
“At the concourse level, Q-managers will be put for the physical segregation of the entry and exit points of the commuters. This will help in avoiding cross movements and crowding near AFC gates. Directional signage indicating the way towards the platforms, tokens, entry/exit points, security messages, system maps, fare charts, passenger information, last train and token timings, and time of opening of counters will also be put up at some required locations,” said the DMRC.
In addition, permanent toilets have been constructed near gate number 3 of Pragati Maidan metro station, and around 20 temporary kiosks providing drinking water and snacks for visitors will also come up.
The “Trade Fair Special” buses will run from Uttam Nagar Terminal (route no. 740), Wazirpur Depot Mudrika Seva (+) and (-), Nand Nagri Terminal (route no. 261), Nangloi JJ Colony (route no. 980) and Rithala (route no. 990) to Pragati Maidan.
“The special buses will charge ordinary fare from the passengers. Ten buses on each route have been provided. The buses on route no.261 (while going towards Pragati Maidan) will go through Delhi Gate and Ring Road; and while returning the same bus will pass through Mathura Road, Tilak Bridge and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg,” said a DTC spokesperson. The DTC will also depute its traffic supervisory staff to help commuters.
