: A snatcher who made around Rs. 4 lakh per month through street crimes has been arrested for his role in over 200 cases of robbery and snatching.
The police said this year alone Manish alias Rishi was involved in 66 cases of snatching on Delhi’s streets. He had turned such a menace that the police had announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his arrest.
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell, which arrested Manish from Dwarka, said he was among two snatchers who had opened fire on a police team in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony on June 4. A constable had been injured in the incident.
Manish and his associate, Manoj, had opened fire on the police team that had laid a trap to nab them. Although Manoj was arrested, Manish had managed to flee.
Manish’s arrest on Wednesday was not easy, either. He allegedly fired at the police team that had laid a trap for him on Old Palam Road.
“When Manish was spotted, the team asked him to surrender. However, he fired at constable Ombir, who narrowly escaped,” said a police officer. The policemen, however, overpowered him. A pistol with three cartridges and a Pulsar motorcycle were seized from Manish, the police claimed.
Manish’s interrogation revealed that he entered the crime world in 2003 when he was booked for theft and possessing firearms. He has been arrested around nine times in the past. The last time he was arrested before this was in 2015. After his release in April 2015, he allegedly went on to commit 150 robberies and snatchings.
