The second edition of lifestyle show Aalishan Pakistan was inaugurated on Thursday by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit, who called for walking past the chequered history between the two countries and making a new beginning.

The event has been put together by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and FICCI for promoting bilateral trade and improving relations between the neighbouring nations.

‘Important facet of bilateral relations’

“Economic and commercial relations are an important facet of bilateral relations, and hosting events like Aalishan Pakistan will help bring people of both countries together and interact,” Mr. Basit added.

The Pakistan High Commissioner invited Indians to visit the exhibition to see what Pakistan is all about and experience first hand the creativity, innovation, warmth and friendliness of the people from the nation.

“The sky is the limit if India and Pakistan come together,” he added.

The show comes close on the heels of the success of the Made in India expo organised in Lahore in February 2014.

Pakistani traders are showcasing textiles, jewellery, accessories, leather, fabric, carpets, furniture, marble and agro product.

150 companies, 260 stalls

TDAP chief executive S.M. Muneer said 150 companies have set up 260 stalls at the exhibition. On the sidelines of the show, a 40-member business delegation from Pakistan will meet business leaders from India to discuss opportunities.

There will also be an art exhibition, titled Pakistani Art Today, at the Lalit Hotel and a food court at the hotel will serve Pakistani delicacies. The exhibition is on in hall numbers 14 and 18 at Pragati Maidan and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The entry ticket costs Rs. 20. The exhibition will be on till Sunday.
