A six-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a labourer in a colony on Gazipur Road here on Tuesday, the police said.
The accused was caught and beaten up by the locals before he was handed over to the police. The girl had gone to buy biscuits from a grocery store in the neighbourhood on Tuesday evening when the accused allegedly lured her to an isolated place and raped her. The locals came to the girl’s rescue when she raised an alarm. The mob caught the accused in the act and beat him up.
Locals protest
The angry locals staged a protest at B.K. Chowk on Wednesday morning and blocked traffic for several hours, demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
The girl was admitted to Civil Hospital in Faridabad and was later shifted to AIIMS in Delhi.
“The girl is stable. She has been shifted to Delhi for better treatment,” said Faridabad Police spokesperson Sube Singh.
A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Saran Police Station.
