Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday directed all the agencies involved in checking waterlogging in the Capital to conduct joint inspections and submit reports on the reasons behind complaints from different areas within 24 hours.

Mr. Sisodia directed the agencies concerned to ensure that waterlogging helpline number 1077 is made functional on a 24x7 basis.

Corrective measures soon

“He has sought a separate report from the Delhi Traffic Police about the roads vulnerable to water-logging and reasons behind this problem. The reports will be followed up by immediate corrective measures to minimise the problem in the national capital,” said a senior government official.

The said directions were given by the Deputy Chief Minister in a meeting attended by Public Works Department Minister Satyendar Jain, Water Minister Kapil Mishra and 50 senior officials of all the agencies responsible for checking water-logging, including the NDMC, the three municipal corporations, PWD, DJB, Revenue, Urban Development, DMRC, Delhi Cantonment Board, Irrigation & Flood Control department and the Delhi Traffic Police.

Mr. Sisodia, the official said, also directed departmental representatives to take strict action against any individual for negligence of duty. It was pointed out that waterlogging at and around the AIIMS flyover has been due to the ongoing construction by the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC). He directed the SDM of the area concerned to issue challans against the NBCC.

Meanwhile, sticking to the claim that the drains maintained by it had been cleaned, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation said that the Delhi Government was to be blamed for the water-logging woes of the city.

On Monday, Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar and top leaders and officials of the corporation inspected the drains and roads of Nangloi, Mundka, Bawana and Narela.

Mr. Nayyar said that the drains maintained by the Public Works Department and Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the Delhi government had not been de-silted, leading to water-logging. He said the Delhi government was not prepared for the monsoon, and that was reason for the mess around the Capital.
