Refused to file complaint: BJP councillor

Four policemen, including the Station House Officer of Mehrauli police station and his deputy, were sent to police lines on Sunday after a group led by a BJP councillor’s husband alleged inaction and misbehaviour when they came to register a complaint.

‘Supporters assaulted’

The complaint was one of assault in an incident involving a clash between children from two communities, which snowballed after the elders intervened.

Mehrauli councillor Aarti Yadav said she and her husband Gajendra, a BJP State Secretary, and the father of a teenager who was assaulted by members of another community had gone to the police station on Saturday night, where the policemen assaulted their supporters and refused to file a complaint.

“Other supporters joined us and we protested outside the police station all night. Action was taken after our State unit chief Manoj Tiwari and senior police officers came,” said Ms. Yadav.

The complaint was received after a case of assault and wrongful confinement was registered against those who allegedly attacked Satish’s (name changed) sons.

Satish claimed that his sons were playing at a DDA park when they were thrashed by two youths, who were allegedly joined by 40 others.

Calls unanswered

He and others then went to Mehrauli police station and demanded action against the accused. The Hindu tried to contact the father of the other child. However, the calls went unanswered.
