Reiterating her Government's commitment to implementing the Right to Education Act, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said a number of new schools will be opened and the existing ones would be optimally utilised.
Ms. Dikshit was speaking at a function organised to present State Teachers Awards-2011 at the Tyagraj Stadium here. Awards were presented to 77 teachers, including two primary school and two secondary schools teachers who were earlier honoured by the Union Government. They were handed over a medal, a citation certificate, a shawl and a cheque for Rs.10,000 each.
Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh, Principal Secretary Education Rakesh Mohan and Director of Education Diwan Chand were also present.
The Chief Minister said: “Our government schools have also been included in the list of top ten schools in the country. Nobody would have even thought ten years ago that Delhi schools will attain a pass percentage of over 90 per cent. This change has not taken place in a few months, but it took years together to improve our schooling atmosphere, infrastructure and facilities.”
Ms. Dikshit along with Education Minister and other guests offered floral tributes to former President S. Radhakrishnan. A colourful skit demonstrating the importance of protection of trees and forests was presented by children.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh said the performance of Delhi schools and its teachers had improved substantially and they have become role models for the entire country.
