Former Delhi Minister A.K. Walia on Monday threatened to quit the Congress over what he termed was the selection of the wrong candidate for an East Delhi ward in the upcoming municipal polls.
Dr. Walia said that the party had, at the last minute, decided not to field the same candidate from Laxmi Nagar who had contested last time. He added that the person who was eventually given the ticket had fought as an independent candidate in 2012, leading to the defeat of the Congress candidate.
According to a representative, Dr. Walia had not sent an official resignation letter to the party, but had issued an “ultimatum”.
Senior leader and vice-president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Chattar Singh said the party had not received any communication from Dr. Walia.
“He is a senior leader of the party. If he has any grievances, we will discuss it. We are already in the process of sorting it out,” said Mr. Singh.
