The protest by BJP MP Mahiesh Girri outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence grew further on Monday as senior party leaders joined the agitation.

BJP MPs Subramanian Swamy, Manoj Tiwari and Vijay Goel and party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya lent weight to Mr. Girri’s protest, who has vowed not to end his fast till the AAP chief “apologises”.

Mr. Kejriwal has alleged that Mr. Girri is involved in the murder of NDMC officer M.M. Khan.

The BJP MP from East Delhi had challenged Mr. Kejriwal to a public debate over the issue.

Mr. Girri had invited the CM to the Constitution Club to produce “evidence” he had against him in the case at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

After Mr. Kejriwal refused the request, the BJP MP went on a hunger strike.

Sitting next to Mr. Girri outside Mr. Kejriwal’s residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, Mr. Swamy mounted a sharp attack on the CM and L-G Najeeb Jung.

Mr. Swamy accused Mr. Jung of seeking “guidance” from Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel.

He also accused Mr. Kejriwal of breaching “Constitutional norms” in the running of his government in the Capital.

Swamy writes to President

Separately, in a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, Mr. Swamy said he had information suggesting that Mr. Jung was playing a “mischievous role” in “abetting” Mr. Kejriwal at the “behest of the Congress to embarrass the BJP” all while “appearing to oppose the CM in public for sake of credibility”.

Outside the CM’s residence, Mr. Swamy told reporters he would go after Mr. Kejriwal “like the way I took on RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan". “Mr. Girri is a religious person who has dedicated his life to public service...You are the CM, give a written complaint.”

He added that the Delhi government should be dismissed if Mr. Kejriwal refused to apologise to Mr. Girri over his allegations.

'Don't politicise death'

Meanwhile, Mr. Khan’s family issued a public appeal requesting that the case not be politicised further.

Mr. Khan, who was conferred martyr status by the AAP government last week, was shot dead in Jamia Nagar on May 16, a day before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of a hotel that was functioning on a property leased out by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
