South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat has asked the officials of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to step up their game in the plantation drive this month.

Despite above average rain this month, the corporation has been lagging behind and not been able to achieve the target of sapling plantation, senior officials said. “The Mayor has asked all zonal in-charges to see why the drives did not go as expected this month. She has also told them that the deficit will have to be made up in this month’s drive,” a senior SDMC official said.

Pending target

The corporation had set the target of planting around 50,000 saplings this month. However, according to officials, only 42,000 were planted. The plantation drive starts from July and continues till October, when the monsoon ends across the city.
