The Supreme Court will pass orders on May 7 on the plea of parents of ‘inter-State transfer category’ seeking admission of their children in nursery schools in the Capital.
A Bench of Justices H.L. Dattu, M.Y. Eqbal and S.A. Bodde reserved orders after hearing senior counsel Nidesh Gupta for parents and senior counsel Raju Ramachandran appearing for the Delhi Government. Last week, the Delhi Government turned down the suggestion for increasing five or six seats in each school to provide admission of children under the inter-State transfer category.
The Bench made it clear that only 22 parents who had approached the court seeking admission for 24 children under the inter-State transfer quota would get relief after it was brought to the court’s notice that only 22 parents had filed petitions.
The Bench questioned the Delhi Government for changing the rules during the course of admission process and said such a procedure was impermissible. The Bench was of the view that the government could not change the rules merely because a handful of parents had misused the provision.
