Ryan case lawyer claims attack by cops in Delhi

The police on Saturday alleged that Sushil Tekriwal, lawyer of the father of a seven-year-old boy who was found dead inside Ryan International School in Gurugram, allegedly created a ruckus when asked by officers to wait for the Prime Minister’s motorcade to pass near Ashok Hotel on Saturday night.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. “The PM was enroute his residence. The lawyer was asked to wait but he created a fuss,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B. K. Singh.

Mr. Tekriwal’s wife Mamta, however, alleged that they had just stepped out of the hotel after having dinner when three officers stopped them and thrashed them.

“We were on foot and going towards our car when three officers came in a police van and stopped us. They hit Sushil and when I started to take video, they snatched my phone and manhandled me,” she alleged.

Ms. Mamta claimed that the officers said: “ Ryan murder case dekh rahe ho? Bohot smart ban rahe ho? (You are looking at Ryan murder case? You are trying to be smart?)”. She further alleged that when other officers came to the spot they accused them of lying and did not take their complaint.

Mr. Singh said no complaint has been received in the matter.
