Russian diplomat held for attempting to assault Delhi cop

December 09, 2015 11:23 am | Updated 11:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A Russian diplomat allegedly tried to assault a policeman who was intervening in an accident case involving the car of the accused in South Delhi's Moti Bagh on Wednesday.

Senior police officers from the concerned district confirmed that a case has been registered but given the diplomatic immunity enjoyed by the embassy official, any further action would have to wait for instructions from higher ups including Union ministries of Home and External Affairs.

According to the police, the diplomat hit a biker Naveen and then rammed his car into a police barricade. While Naveen was sent to AIIMS, the diplomat himself refused to come out of the car when told to do so by policemen at the barricade.

It is further alleged that following an argument with cops present at the spot, the diplomat also tried to assault one of them, constable Naib Singh

A First Information Report was registered at the South Campus Police Station against the diplomat under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. More details are awaited.
