A day after a 67-year-old was found murdered in her Gulmohar Enclave flat on Monday evening, the police said on Tuesday that the role of a domestic help who was fired by victim Usha Devi last week was being investigated.

Hip injury

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a domestic help was employed in January to look after Devi’s husband while she was in the United States with her daughter. Devi returned in March and later fired the domestic help for missing work frequently.

The victim’s family members told the police that Devi was confined to the house since she had suffered a hip injury. The police said the role of an insider was suspected as entry to the house was friendly and the murderer seemed aware the victim would be alone at home when the incident happened.

“A room had been ransacked. The attacker was looking for something specific because jewellery and other valuables kept in the house were found intact,” said a senior police officer.

He added that the police are waiting for the death ceremonies to end as they need more information on visitors and the domestic help. Devi has three daughters, of which two live abroad and one with her.

CCTV footage

Meanwhile, police teams are scanning footage from CCTV cameras mounted at the four entry and exit gates of the colony for leads.
